Wooden Sheds

A wooden shed still looks the part in a British garden, and it works as hard as any. This range covers timber sheds in overlap and shiplap, priced from £514. Overlap keeps the cost down. Shiplap gives a tighter, more weatherproof board. Both come in apex and pent roofs, with or without windows. Treat the timber once a year and a good shed lasts decades. We build these every week. Free UK mainland delivery on every shed.

Why choose a wooden shed

A wooden shed brings warmth and looks that plastic and steel cannot match. Timber insulates well, so the inside stays workable through winter. It takes a shelf, a hook or a hasp anywhere you like, screwed straight into the frame. This range holds sheds in overlap and shiplap. For no-upkeep options see our plastic sheds and metal sheds. For smaller loads try garden storage.

Overlap sheds are the budget choice, with boards that lap over each other to shed rain. Shiplap uses tongue-and-groove boards for a tighter, drier wall. Both need a coat of treatment each year to stay sound. Do that and a timber shed outlasts most gardens.

Two things make or break a wooden shed. First the base: we stand ours on a flat, level frame or slabs, never straight on soil, so the timber stays dry. Second the treatment: give it a fresh coat every autumn and the wood never gets the chance to rot. Look after those two and a good shiplap shed is still solid twenty years on.

Matt's pick

For a first shed on a budget, the 4ft Overlap Apex at £514 is the one to beat. It stores bikes and tools and goes up in a morning. For a workshop we fit a shiplap apex with windows. The thicker board and glazing make it a room you want to spend time in.

Overlap or shiplap?

Overlap is the cheaper board and does the job for general storage. Shiplap costs more but keeps the weather out better and feels solid. Choose shiplap if you plan to work in the shed or store anything that must stay dry. Choose overlap to keep a mower and tools for less.

Getting the base right

A wooden shed needs a firm, level, dry base. Paving slabs or a treated timber frame both work well. Keep the floor off bare soil so damp cannot creep into the boards. A level base is what keeps the door square for years.

What will it cost?

Wooden sheds here start at £514 for a compact 4ft store. Larger workshops and security sheds run into four figures. Every shed includes free mainland delivery. There are no hidden charges at checkout.

Wooden shed questions

Do wooden sheds need treating?

Yes, give the timber a coat of treatment every year. It keeps out damp and stops the wood rotting. Most sheds arrive dip-treated, so the first job is a top-up coat.

What is the difference between overlap and shiplap?

Overlap boards lap over each other and cost less. Shiplap uses tongue-and-groove for a tighter, drier wall. Shiplap suits workshops; overlap suits basic storage.

Do wooden sheds need a base?

Yes, they need a firm, level, dry base. Paving slabs or a timber frame both work. Never stand a wooden shed straight on soil.

How long does a wooden shed last?

A treated wooden shed lasts twenty years or more. Yearly treatment and a dry base are what get you there. Neglect either and the boards rot far sooner.

Are wooden sheds secure?

Yes, fit a hasp and a good padlock to the door. Windowless models keep contents out of sight. For tools and bikes, add a ground anchor inside.

Can I paint a wooden shed?

Yes, most timber sheds take a coloured wood paint or stain. It seals the wood and lets you match the garden. Re-coat every year or two to keep it sound.
